ELEPHANT FUNERAL PROCESSION TO HONOR HUMAN FRIEND

31 elephants march 12 miles and spend two days without food paying respects to their friend – “The Elephant Whisperer”

ELEPHANTS JOURNEY 12 MILES TO PAY RESPECTS TO HUMAN WHO LOVED THEM AND PROTECTED THEM

This is a heartwarming story I just received from a friend in Australia, who had obviously gotten it from her friends in South Africa.  (I edited it slightly for grammar and style.)

You don’t have to be an elephant lover (as this writer is) to see the Divine presence in their noble act.  And feel the giant hearts that beat inside these giant animals.

HOW DID THEY KNOW?

Lawrence Anthony, a legend in South Africa and author of 3 books including the ATT00001bestseller, “The Elephant Whisperer.” He bravely rescued wildlife and rehabilitated elephants all over the globe from human atrocities, including the courageous rescue of Baghdad Zoo animals during US invasion in 2003.

On March 7, 2012 Lawrence Anthony passed. He is remembered and missed by his wife, 2 sons, 2 grandsons. And by numerous elephants.

Two days after his passing, a heart of wild elephants showed up at his home led by two large matriarchs. Separate groups arrived in droves to say goodbye to their beloved ‘man-friend’.  In total, 31 elephants walked over 12 miles to get to Anthony’s South African home.

Lawrence’s wife, Francoise, was especially touched. Because the elephants had not been to his house prior to that day for well over 3 years! But  they obviously wanted to pay their  respects, to honor their friend and protector. They stayed for 2 days 2 nights without eating anything.

Then the next morning, they left, to make their long journey back to their habitat.

SOMETHING IN THE UNIVERSE IS GREATER
AND DEEPER THAN HUMAN INTELLIGENCE.

IN GOD WE TRUST. THE ELEPHANTS OBVIOUSLY DO.

Here’s a photo of this writer riding an elephant in a Thailand jungle in June 2006. This ride was a realization of my childhood dream.

This elephant (above), named “Gold Leaf,” was 105 years old at the time. Here’s now also a photo of me with “Beck,” a 5-year old baby elephant (below)… Ayutthaya6_25_06 030-1

  1. Animals are far more intelligent, compassionate and spiritual than Humans . It is humbling to see such beautiful acts done by the Animals . Humans have a lot to learn from the Animal kingdom .
