My “radio silence” does not mean abstinence from music. On the contrary, I have been playing my Clavinova more than ever.  All sorts of weird and wonderful melodies are coming out.

Last night, for example, I had a dream in which the “Yellow Rose of Texas” song was playing. I had never played this tune before.  But the music left such a strong impression on me that I kept hearing it long after I had gotten up.

So while Elizabeth was making breakfast, I started playing it. She sang and danced to it while fixing it.

“I don’t really know what this is about,” I told her as we sat down to eat.Quilt_TXs

“I am your Yellow Rose of Texas,” she said.

pul-couture-fashion-maui-28She sure is. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Elizabeth is as Texan as a Texas belle can be. Three-and-a-half years ago, she even made this wonderful Texas quilt which won the first prize at the Maui County Fair of 2010 (right).

And she also stole the spotlight at a Fashion Show we attended at the Maui Arts & Culture Center 2.5 years ago. The photo on the left was actually published by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Hawaii’s premier newspaper in its report about the show.

So I knew I had to record my version of the “Yellow Rose of Texas” for “My Yellow Rose of Texas.”

Here it is…

My “radio silence” does not include abstinence from music. On the contrary, I have been playing my Clavinova more than ever.  All sorts of weird and wonderful melodies are coming out. This is what happened this afternoon, while Elizabeth was in town running errands.  Mozart started to rock once again… 🙂 This time, for Kathi, my granddaughter in Vienna, Austria who is turning 6 on Jan 10.

So Happy Birthday, Kathi, from Herr Mozart and Bob!

This is your birthday gift from both of us…

LAUNCH of New Year’s Lantern of Love, Acceptance, Understanding, Nurturing, Compassion & Hope

A film by Bob Altzar Djurdjevic – Dec 31, 2013 – filmed at the Rainbow Shower in Maui, Hawaii around 7PM on New Year’s Eve – Happy New Year 2014!

This will be my last post before I go into my self-imposed “radio silence” during the month of January (see New Year’s Resolutions).  It is a film about how Elizabeth and I LAUNCH-ed last night a lantern of Love, Acceptance, Understanding, Nurturing, Compassion and Hope-Harmony-Humility.

It wasn’t easy. NASA we are not. It took three crashes and four launches before the lantern finally sailed off into the dark yonder over the Pacific. But sail it did. And with it, it carried our Love, Acceptance, Understanding, Nurturing, Compassion and Hope-Harmony-Humility to the rest of humanity on this planet.

This is a story about it…

Multibillionaire Larry Ellison Lives Up to Expectations, Denies Public Access to His Lanai New Year’s Fireworks

Meanwhile, the IT multibillionaire, Larry Ellison, chairman and CEO of Oracle, who ell0-006purchased the island of Lanai in June 2012, lived up to our expectations of him (see the letter to Honolulu Star below, June 21, 2012).  While reportedly spending about $2 million last night on lavish fireworks at Lanai’s Manele Bay resort, he denied public access to it.

A friend who works at Lahaina harbor told me today that there was a lot of grumbling last night among the boatsmen and captains of sailing vessels over that.

“Who does he think he is?” one of the captains who was prevented from sailing was reported as saying.  “That he owns the ocean, too?”

No surprise there. Check out this letter I sent to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Hawaii’s leading newspaper. The letter was never published as far as I know.

Subject Castle & Cooke holds on to wind project – your news story

Larry Ellison may be “only” the third richest man in the world. But this planet is not big enough for his ego. So would he fit it into a small island like Lanai? Maybe in a highly compressed “ZIP” format? 🙂

There is something else that doesn’t fit: Our politicians’ coddling up to rich mainlanders.

Abercrombie, our governor, said: “His passion for nature, particularly the ocean is well known specifically in the realm of America’s Cup sailing.”

Even casual observers know that America’s Cup has about as much to do with love of the ocean as Indianapolis 500 has to do with love of concrete.  It’s high tech at high prices on high seas.

Meanwhile, what if this self-indulgent man decides to charge fees for visits Lanai? Or denies the Hawaiian public access to it? Or “develops” it into some high tech Disneyland?  Or… feel free to let your imagination go.

Our islands are NOT our politicians’ property. They belong to ALL people of Hawaii. This deal should be struck down and a law passed that no individual or private corporation can own or control more than 50% of any island, not even an atoll.
