My “radio silence” does not mean abstinence from music. On the contrary, I have been playing my Clavinova more than ever. All sorts of weird and wonderful melodies are coming out.
Last night, for example, I had a dream in which the “Yellow Rose of Texas” song was playing. I had never played this tune before. But the music left such a strong impression on me that I kept hearing it long after I had gotten up.
So while Elizabeth was making breakfast, I started playing it. She sang and danced to it while fixing it.
“I am your Yellow Rose of Texas,” she said.
She sure is. Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Elizabeth is as Texan as a Texas belle can be. Three-and-a-half years ago, she even made this wonderful Texas quilt which won the first prize at the Maui County Fair of 2010 (right).
And she also stole the spotlight at a Fashion Show we attended at the Maui Arts & Culture Center 2.5 years ago. The photo on the left was actually published by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Hawaii’s premier newspaper in its report about the show.
So I knew I had to record my version of the “Yellow Rose of Texas” for “My Yellow Rose of Texas.”
Here it is…
“YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS” FOR MY “YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS”
