Variations 1 and 18 – a film by Bob Altzar Djurdjevic – recorded at Rainbow Shower, Haiku, Maui, Hawaii on June 10, 2014
My “Birthday Song of 2014” came to me in Malaga, Spain, a few days early. It was at the end of our Europe 2014 trip that my music Spirit guides reconnected me once again with my Franz Liszt lifetime (see MY BIRTHDAY SONG OF 2014).
I have never before played any of Rachmaninoff’s pieces. Too hard for me, at least in this lifetime. But when we returned home, I started to doodle on my Clavinova two themes from Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Paganini Theme.” They are Variations 1 and 18.
I did not use any sheet music except to reconfirm my intuition. The music came to me in A-minor, the key that Rachmaninoff also used.
I continued improvising on these two variations when we returned to Maui. And this morning, I was moved to make this recording. Call it an Evolution of my birthday song of 2014:
