Elizabeth’s Morning Starts with Live Musical Birthday Card

Screen Shot 2015-12-27 at 7.09.20 PMToday – Dec 28, 2015 – is Elizabeth’s birthday. As she was walking out of our bedroom, I started playing IMG_5033for her “Las Mañanitas (Mornings), the Mexican birthday song. It was her musical birthday song to go along with a birthday card I also created for her.

A few minutes later, I recorded it on my Clavinova. And then I also made this short music video.

It was the first time that I recorded this song with orchestration of a Mariachi band. When this music originally came to me in Nov 2011, I recorded it on my Steinway with the flute and Tibetan bowls and the Irish Bodhran as background instruments. The video you are about to see dates back to Nov 29, 2011. The audio, however, is the new recording I just made this morning.

The Rest of Elizabeth’s Birthday

We spent this afternoon in Lahaina, Kaanapali Beach and finished the evening with a sunset dinner at Merriman’s in Kapalua (all well known touristy spots in West Maui). The weather was perfect and so was the entire experience.

You can see the birthday girl wearing her new Hawaiian dress and a Tibetan necklace she got from me as birthday gifts. And, of course, the sunset dinner at one of the most romantic spots in all of Hawaii – Kapalua Bay.

Take a look…

Here are a few more shots from our tonight’s sunset dinner at Kapalua Bay…

The earthly and the celestial events united this Christmas Day at an auspicious 11:11 time UTC/GMT, signifying both Masters’ presence and Rebirth, just like the one that took place 2015+ years ago.

timezones_textNot since 1977 has a full moon dawned in the skies on Christmas. And there will not be another one till 2034. So since most of us will only get a chance to experience something like this perhaps twice in our lifetime, let us welcome, honor and celebrate this rare confluence of physical, spiritual and celestial.

The folks in the British Isles, Iceland, Portugal and Western Africa have a chance to do so at exactly 11:11 on their watches and clocks. And only New Zealanders were left out. By the time the Full Moon was at its apex, it was be already Dec 26 there.

11:11 In Numerology

11:11 is the universe’s way of urging us to pay attention to our heart, our soul and our inner intuition. It’s serving as a wake-up call to us so that opportunities are not missed in this lifetime. Sort of like a Rebirth or a second chance to pay attention to the synchronicities around us. For, they are signs of Spirit presence. And in case of the Number 11, the Masters’ guidance in our lives.

Christmas Eve

Over here at the Rainbow Shower in Maui, the celestial Christmas show started on Christmas Eve with this sunset rainbow…

And this is my musical Christmas card – two variations from Carmina Burana.

I just finished playing them “live” here at the Rainbow Shower, so I thought you might also enjoy this recording of it I made in Sep 2014.

Christmas Full Moon Rising

I feared we would miss it. With all the rain and clouds we had been having today, I was not sure I would get to see this auspicious Full Moon that appears at Christmas only every so many decades.

But something made me step out to the lanai to take a look. Miraculously, the rain had stopped. Momentarily, I am sure. And I could feel, more than see, the moonglow through the clouds.

So I hurried back into the house and grabbed my two cameras.IMG_4980

I needn’t have rushed. Because by the time I got back out, clouds had obscured the moon. Undaunted, I decided to wait them out.

Sure enough, after a few minutes, Mama Quilla (Mother Moon), La Luna, showed up again, this time bright and beautiful bathing everything in its bluish milky light.

The reflection off our solar panels was a bonus. Made it seem as if was reflecting off ice.

And then, Elizabeth called to say goodnight after her big Christmas Eve party in AZ. She is flying back home to Maui early tomorrow morning.

I looked at the time of her call: 11:11 (AZ time). 🙂 The official Full Moon time as 11:11 UTC.

PS: For the photo enthusiasts, both picture were taken freehand, without a tripod. The left one with the iPhone special NightCap Pro app, the right one with a Canon G12. Both were slightly edited.

I was awakened this morning around 6 AM. It felt like it was still nighttime. But a mellow outside light gave the windows a milky glow.

“The full moon, moonset…” entered my consciousness as I was slowly waking up.

I felt too sleepy to get up and look. But the outside light worked like a magnet to draw me out of bed and onto the lanai.

The sight of a setting Moon was breathtaking. The sky was clear. Yet the rain must have evidently just stopped. Because the lanai was very wet.

That’s when I realized there will be no more sleeping for me on this Christmas morning. So went inside to get the cameras.

A few minutes later, I drove some 5 miles west to Ho’okipa Point to try to catch the moonset over the ocean and the sunrise that was happening simultaneously.

By the time I got back to the Rainbow Shower, it seemed the sun was rising once again over the mountain on whose slopes our property lies.

So here are some of the shots I brought home. This is just a preview from one of the two cameras.

I shot this video “by accident” this morning while trying to take a photo… and yet it captured the waning moments of a setting Christmas full moon. Just for one second. No accident, I guess?

You can also see the surfers in the water even at that early hour (6:54 AM), before the sun had even come up.

While the Zhito was cooking on Saint Nicholas Day, Dec 19, I decided to film my Opening of Sacred Space and Chakra Activation.  I do this type of a thing every morning before doing anything else each day.  Consider it an “Overture” to a ceremony that might follow.

In this case, the ceremony was the consecration of the Slava Kolach and of Zhito, a special wheat, walnuts and sugar offering which I prepare specifically for this day every year.

But the main purpose of this Overture to each day is to activate the chakras and with the help of my Guides and Teachers in the Spirit realm, and to create a protective shield around me and my loved ones wherever we go and whatever we do each day.

Opening of Sacred Space and Chakra Activation Ceremony

This particular part of my each day is not something I have been taught either by my Andean mountain spirit teachers (Apus), or any other guides. It sort of grew over the years to incorporate all aspects of spiritual work, including the seven soul rays, seven chakras and the seven main colors of the rainbow.

Notice that, for each chakra, the hand moves in a circular clockwise direction over it.  Before doing this, though, I usually first clear the chakras on unwanted energies and chaff we accumulate each day by literally smoking it out with Holy Smoke (incense) – in a COUNTER-clockwise direction.

I invite you to join me.  The ceremony includes and addresses all of those who do. And I can assure you that if you do have a spiritual practice of you own, this will enhance it and touch both your heart and soul. I claim to copyright on this.

This ceremony is a gift to me from the Spirit realm which I feel obligated to share. So feel free to use it whenever you think it might be appropriate for you.

Here are also some still pictures from this shoot, starting with the order and alignment of the 7 Soul Rays and 7 Chakras:

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 2015: Emit Love & Compassion from Your Heart

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 2015: Emit Love & Compassion from Your Heart

This year, I decided to do the traditional Christmas video message outdoors.

Why not, right?

While most of the rest of the country is digging up right now from under one of its many winter snow storms, we are blessed with gentle trade breezes and occasional misty showers that bless us with rainbows in early mornings and evenings.

The Rainbow Shower, the name of our property here in Maui, provides a perfect backdrop for a spiritual message. It’s a magical, sacred place with perpetual music provided by a stream at the bottom of it and a bamboo grove at the top.  And it is the Solar Chakra of Blue Star Earth.

Which I why this video message, which I recorded today, December 16, 2015, has been bracketed by aerial and ground views of the Rainbow Shower. So that all of you – my friends and family from around the world – can see what Christmas looks like in Hawaii and partake in it.

Merry Christmas! Mele Kalikimaka!

GAUDEAMUS IGITUR! (Let Us Rejoice, Lat.)

Screen Shot 2015-12-12 at 8.54.03 AM

As I was waking up this morning, I heard the sounds of a song I had not heard in decades. I recognized it as a graduation song we used to sing at commencement ceremonies and parties. In Latin, of course. I had forgotten the words but the music was still there.

I was about to record the Gaudeamus Igitur (Let Us Rejoice, Lat.) this morning as part of my congratulations message to Victoria, Elizabeth’s granddaughter who graduated from college today, as I did on this day 47 years ago. But I just found out that someone has already done it. So I won’t have to. It would be hard to beat four mini Tubas playing together. 🙂

So here’s the Youtube link for you all… with both the Latin and English lyrics. The song is just a minute and a half long. So anybody can learn it…

Here’s also a choral version of the song sung by the choir of Seville Medical School in Spain…

Well, I couldn’t help it.  I was about to go out and do some work in the gulch, part of my “farmer’s yoga,” when something drew me like a magnet to the Clavinova. And in less than five minutes, this recording of Gaudeamus Igitur was a result. It is a combination of choral and orchestral sounds in D-major.

To say that John Lennon was a rebel would be an understatement.  He picked up causes like a woolen suit picks up lint. Many of them were noble.  Some were for pure “shock and awe” effect. Like the “Two Virgins” nude album cover. Or the mock U.S. flag used for an anti-war poster.  But he did not survive another mocking…

john-lennon-two_virgins lennon460

Yesterday, December 8, was the 35th anniversary of the day the famous Beatle died, felled by four bullets fired by former fan-turned assassin. Why? Because Lennon mocked Jesus.

Lennon died because he claimed the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus”

ALTZAR: I remember the day like it was yesterday. Yet it was 35 years ago. December 8, 1980. John Lennon. Dead. Shot by a supposed fan.

Lennon death crowdWhy?

I had no idea at the time. I just felt overwhelming sadness, like millions of other Beatles fans around the world.

But now, in hindsight, maybe Lennon had it coming. Because of the things he said 14 years earlier…

Of course, Jesus would have never approved of Paul Chapman’s actions. But most people are not like him. Forgiving, compassionate, loving…

Which is why we need to be VERY CAREFUL about the things we say. Especially in public.

* * *

John Lennon, a former member of the Beatles, the rock group that transformed popular music in the 1960s, was shot and killed by a disillusioned former fan in New York City.

The 40-year-old artist was entering his luxury Manhattan apartment building when Mark David Chapman shot him four times at close range with a .38-caliber revolver. Lennon, bleeding profusely, was rushed to the hospital but died en route.

Lennon_and_ChapmanChapman had received an autograph from Lennon earlier in the day, and voluntarily remained at the scene of the shooting until he was arrested by police.

Like millions of others, Chapman had been a big Beatles fan, idolizing Lennon, and played guitar himself. But he turned against him after he was angered by Lennon’s comment that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.”

In the South, there were demonstrations, album burnings, boycotts, and projectiles thrown over that Lennon comment. Some members of Chapman’s prayer group made a joke, “imagine, imagine if John Lennon was dead,” playing off the popular Lennon hit song “Imagine.”

Because offending Jesus was no joke to Chapman. Jan Reeves, sister of one of Chapman’s best friends, reported that Chapman “seemed really angry toward John Lennon, and he kept saying he could not understand why John Lennon had said it” [that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus].

“According to Mark (the Bible), there should be nobody more popular than the Lord Jesus Christ. Mark said it was blasphemy.”

Screen Shot 2015-12-09 at 11.07.07 AMALTZAR: And Chapman took it literally and acted upon it. Words that kill… that would be my title to this tragedy. Tonight, I played “Imagine”, the Lennon song, on my Clavinova. I don’t think I ever actually recorded it. I think I may… tomorrow.

Actually, John Lennon may have dug his own grave 14 years before Chapman shot him. Here’s an excerpt from his interview with Maureen Cleave, a good friend of John Lennon’s, who wrote a personality article about him that would be published in the March 4th 1966 edition of the London Evening Standard.

Screen Shot 2015-12-09 at 11.06.57 AM“Cleave’s piece was intended to present a portrait of the behind-the-scenes Lennon, and was entitled ‘How Does A Beatle Live? John Lennon Lives Like This.’ The article contained a number of Lennon musings, remarks and random thoughts from a recent conversation she had with him at his home in Weybridge, including John’s personal view of the current state of religion:

“Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue about that; I’m right and I will be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now. I don’t know which will go first, rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It’s them twisting it that ruins it for me.”

But this rebel with a cause, now widely revered, also had weaknesses. Like many musical artists, Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono used drugs extensively. Eventually, this was to be their undoing. And in Lennon’s case, contributed to his early death.

London3-7When Elizabeth and I were in London in October 2010, we visited several of the homes where various Beatles had resided during the late 1960, at the top of their fame. The basement flat at 34 Montagu Square was where they were arrested on Oct 18, 1968 – (see

YokoOnoPA251010.article_x4I have only now realized that we were standing on the doorstep of that house on Oct 19, one day past the 42nd anniversary since that fateful day, and the day when the couple actually appeared in court. I also realized today, Dec 9, 2015,  that four days after our visit, Yoko Ono was also back unveil a British Heritage plaque which now graces its walls (on Oct 23, 2010,

Here’s an excerpt from my Oct 2010 London travelogue…

“Moving on a few blocks farther, we stopped outside the house in whose basement apartment John Lennon and Yoko Ono first used to shack up (middle right). It was here that the infamous nearly nude photo of John and Yoko was taken which shocked the puritan world.  Lennon wanted it on the cover of a new album.  But it became widely known after being published in a magazine (Richard is holding it in his hands).

Jimmy Hendrix also lived in that flat for a while.  The place was a hangout for rockers and always full of drugs.  Lennon was once tipped off about a police raid, so he cleaned up the place in advance of it.  But the police found some drugs anyway, possibly left over from an earlier binge by someone else.  So they arrested the famous couple.  In order to save Ono from deportation, Lennon negotiated a plea agreement.  He plead guilty to a simple count of possession as log as the prosecutor kept Ono out of it.  Boy, was he ever to regret that plea a few years later.” (see

Here’s an excerpt from a story about their arrest. Lennon and Ono had been tipped off about the upcoming police raid.  According to Lennon, they had swept the house top-to-bottom removing any traces of drugs. But apparently, they did not do a very good job.

Because police sniffer dogs, Yogi and Booboo, found the cannabis in various places, including the binoculars case, a film can and a cigarette roller. The following evidence was found:

  • 27.3 grains of hashish in an unsealed brown envelope in a blue trunk in the bedroom
  • A cigarette case containing traces of hashish on the bedroom floor
  • A cigarette rolling machine with traces of cannabis, on top of a mirror in the bedroom
  • 191.8 grains of hashish in a binocular case in the living room

Lennon and Ono were marched through the crowds of photographers outside and were taken by police car to Paddington Green. The couple were charged and ordered to appear in court the following day.” (see

John Lennon met Yoko Ono in 1966, while still married to Cynthia, his wife of four years. The couple had a three-year old son by the time Ono had swept Lennon off his feet. John and Cynthia started their relationship in 1958 in Liverpool. Lennon was insanely jealous and at time violent. Here’s what Cynthia wrote about one such incident:

john-cynthia-lennon_1950sHe saw me dancing with his best friend Stuart, my best friend Stuart. That made him see red at that time. But it wasn’t until the following day and he’d been thinking about it all night and he caught me outside the ladies loos in the college basement, and just smacked me one. And I hit my head on the back of the pipes and he just walked off. “ (see

In other words, this was not just a case of temper tantru,. It was premeditated violence against a woman who had done nothing wrong.

John and Cynthia’s relationship ended in 1968, by which point Lennon was already living with Ono, as we now know,

Fast-forwarding to 1970s…

“When Lennon and Ono moved to New York in the early 1970s, they became politically active in the anti-Nixon election campaign.  Guess they did not know just how dirty politics is in America.  The Nixon people wanted to dredge up some dirt on the couple so as to neutralize their influence on the campaign.  Eventually, they sniffed out Lennon’s drug conviction in London.  After that, the U.S. prosecutors and immigration officials put the couple through a ringer.  Since money seems to buy nearly everything in America, Lennon was able to negotiate his way out of deportation.  But the deal put a sock in their political mouths.  So activist posters, such as the one on the left depicting a mock American flag, became a thing of the past.”

And now, with this as a preamble, here’s my latest recording of Lennon’s hit song “Imagine.”

JOHN LENNON’S “IMAGINE” RECORDED BY ALTZAR on Dec 9, 2015 at the Rainbow Shower in Maui, Hawaii

Love Heart sunset

On February 2nd of this year, I woke up with a powerful tune in my Third Ear.  It was trumpets, horns, drums.  And it was very fast.  It could have been a theme song for a western movie.  Or an opera theme.

When I started playing it after breakfast, Elizabeth thought it was aScreen Shot 2015-02-02 at 5.25.15 PM “Lone Ranger” theme, but was not sure.  I told her it sounded like an opera to me. And the opera music came before the westerns.

“So maybe it’s both?” I speculated. “Perhaps it’s an opera tune adapted to a movie?”

The scene was repeated on November 30, as I was filming our Christmas Lights at the Rainbow Shower. Again, a powerful tune sounded in my Third Ear. Again, I had no idea what it was. Until I recorded it, and my nephew from Belgrade recognized as the “Light Cavalry” overture.

* * *

So here is now my latest musical creation – Lone Ranger-William Tell-Light Cavalry and Carmen – joined at the Rainbow Shower in Maui.

What united all three composers of these works written between 1829 and 1875 is that they were all Victorian era contemporaries who lived in the post-Napoleonic period. So the sound of those powerful trumpets and horses’ hooves during a cavalry charge evidently echoed in all their years.  As it did in mine, both then and now.

Rossini-Suppe-Bizet Liszt-kaulbach

You see, I was also these three composers’ contemporary, incarnated back in the middle of the 19th century as Franz Liszt. Maybe that’s why the sounds of these three overtures mingle and still echo in my ears a century and half after they were first played. And maybe that’s why I recorded them all without any sheet music, in the same key – G-major.

So saddle up, get on your mount, and get ready to CHARGE with the cavalry at the sound ot the trumpets.

Here’s also my February recording of the first two parts – William Tell/Lone Ranger and Carmen:
