How Makahiki Games – Hawaiian Olympics – fooled the Englishman into believing Hawaiians are friendly all the time

Feb 14 – also our anniversary

On February 14, 1779, Captain James Cook, the great English explorer and navigator, is killed by natives of Hawaii during his third visit to the Pacific island group.

In 1768, Cook, a surveyor in the Royal Navy, was commissioned a lieutenant in command of the HMS Endeavor and led an expedition that took scientists to Tahiti to chart the course of the planet Venus. In 1771, he returned to England, having explored the coast of New Zealand and Australia and circumnavigated the globe. Beginning in 1772, he commanded a major mission to the South Pacific and during the next three years explored the Antarctic region, charted the New Hebrides, and discovered New Caledonia.

In 1776, Cook sailed from England again as commander of the HMS Resolution and Discovery, and in January 1778 he made his first visit to the Hawaiian Islands. He may have been the first European to ever visit the island group, which he named the Sandwich Islands in honor of one of his patrons, John Montague, the Earl of Sandwich.

Cook and his crew were welcomed by the Hawaiians, who were fascinated by the Europeans’ ships and their use of iron. Cook provisioned his ships by trading the metal, and his sailors traded iron nails for sex.

ALTZAR: What the channel, the source of this story, doesn’t seem to know is that Captain Cook’s ships arrived during the Makahiki Games. Which is the Hawaiian version of the Greek Olympics when all wars and battles cease. That’s why the Hawaiians were so friendly the first time they arrived.  For more on that, and how Elizabeth participated in the Makahiki Games 2014, see another story below.

The ships then made a brief stop at Ni’ihau and headed north to look for the western end of a northwest passage from the North Atlantic to the Pacific. Almost one year later, Cook’s two ships returned to the Hawaiian Islands and found a safe harbor in Hawaii’s Kealakekua Bay.

It is suspected that the Hawaiians attached religious significance to the first stay of the Europeans on their islands. In Cook’s second visit, there was no question of this phenomenon. Kealakekua Bay was considered the sacred harbor of Lono, the fertility god of the Hawaiians, and at the time of Cook’s arrival the locals were engaged in a festival dedicated to Lono. Cook and his compatriots were welcomed as gods and for the next month exploited the Hawaiians’ good will. After one of the crewmen died, exposing the Europeans as mere mortals, relations became strained. On February 4, 1779, the British ships sailed from Kealakekua Bay, but rough seas damaged the foremast of the Resolution, and after only a week at sea the expedition was forced to return to Hawaii.

The Hawaiians greeted Cook and his men by hurling rocks; they then stole a small cutter vessel from the Discovery. Negotiations with King Kalaniopuu for the return of the cutter collapsed after a lesser Hawaiian chief was shot to death and a mob of Hawaiians descended on Cook’s party. The captain and his men fired on the angry Hawaiians, but they were soon overwhelmed, and only a few managed to escape to the safety of the Resolution. Captain Cook himself was killed by the mob. A few days later, the Englishmen retaliated by firing their cannons and muskets at the shore, killing some 30 Hawaiians.

The Resolution and Discovery eventually returned to England.

Makahiki Games: The Hawaiian Olympics

For Native Hawaiians, it wasn’t the lighting of a torch but the sighting of a cluster of stars that signified the opening of the games. The appearance of the Makalii, also known as the Pleiades, in the eastern sky would mark the Hawaiian New Year and the start of the Makahiki (pronounced mah-kah-hee-kee) season. Makahiki was a time for the Hawaiians to honor Lono, the god of rain, agriculture, harvest, peace and fertility.
For four months warfare and unnecessary work were forbidden and instead the Hawaiian people enjoyed rituals, feasts, festivals and games.

In Jan 2014, Elizabeth took part in the Makahiki Games on the island of Oa
hu riding a Hawaiian bobsled – He’eholua (see  OAHU 2014: HAWAIIAN OLYMPICS, BEACHES, ANNIVERSARY & MORE, Jan 2014).

You can also see a video I made about the Makahiki Games which includes the footage of Elizabeth’s historic ride. Or should I say – glide? 🙂

Elizabeth and I have also been to Kealakekua Bay and saw Captain Cook’s monument there a number of times during our life in Hawaii. The place has become a modern snorkeling destination in modern time. Here’s a story about our first trip there in 2011 –.

On this day in our personal history…

For what it’s worth, Feb 14 is also our anniversary. While we lived in Hawaii, we would traditionally go to the HY’s restaurant in Honolulu to celebrate it. Except in 2014, when we celebrated it in Maui as well. And in 2015, when we celebrated it in Western Australia,

Now that we are back in Arizona, we will return to the Capital Grille this evening where we had dinner on our first date.

The restaurant spread out for us rose petals and hearts on the table cloth, and treated us to a scrumptious Happy Anniversary dessert. Just as they did two years ago…

Will Our Planet Survive?

SPIRIT GUIDES (in a May 14, 2012 channeling):

  • The universe, are literally filled with DEAD PLANETS. As dead as Atlantis. As dead as other early civilizations on your planet.

  • What we are saying is that it is up to you and the next three to four generations to decide on the values that are most important, to decide whether or not groups of individuals living in nations can, in fact, live together in harmony.

  • The history of your planet does not give the Spiritual realm a great deal of optimism.

On this day in 2013, I published a chart from Wars in the World website ( that showed 60 armed conflicts raging on in the world. At the same time, I was being inundated with messages from various spiritual groups and channelers about the Earth’s ascension which would supposedly bring about peace and love around the planet.

Clearly, that was not the case three years ago, and is even less so today. I just checked in again with that war-tracking website, and have found out that the number of wars and conflicts has actually increased since 2013.

Now, wars are raging in 68 countries around the world. There is also a staggering number of 728 regional conflicts going on at this time. Just the United States military are now involved in no less than 134 wars and conflicts ( – actually this data is as of 2014).

Ironically, we are technically not at war with any country. World War II was the last time Congress officially declared war. So much for the legality of congressional war making powers. The war hawks are clearly ruling the roost in America. And it doesn’t look that it’s going to get any better regardless of whether Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton are elected president.

Which reminded me of things some my spirit guides had talked about as we entered 2012, the “doomsday” year as some “pundits” were predicting (see the Light Beings channeling Jan 3, 2012 –

Stewards of the Earth

● ALTZAR: This is the term that first came to me last summer (2011) as “Shepherd of the Earth.”

● LIGHT BEINGS (LB): And that is a VERY, VERY APT description! [strong emphasis came through LB’s intonation of words]. And it is an important one right now. And it will be increasingly important not just in 2012, but in subsequent years as well. Because Stewards of this planet must step forward at this time. And they must write and educate and assist others in understanding why taking care of Planet Earth is of CRITICAL IMPORTANCE.

● There is going to be much more of that (upheavals) in years to come, elsewhere. And you are to continue to highlight this. And not just in terms of, as we have said, with volcanoes, but with earthquakes, with floods, with massive natural disasters. That is Mother Earth’s way of not only cleansing the earth, but assisting the earth beings to get their priorities straight.

(an excerpt from a May 14, 2012 channeling –

  • Your planet is in one of those 25,000-year cycles. There is a huge transformation going on.
  • Your planet will be in a vastly different place 25,000 years from now – IF IT SURVIVES.
  • And the Spiritual realm is doing all it can (to save it), including asking volunteers from other dimensions, other celestial bodies, to participate in the evolution of your planet.
  • Because there is great concern whether or not your planet can, in fact, survive for another 25,000 years.
  • Your solar system and the many, many solar systems that make up your galaxy, and the thousands of galaxies that make up the universe, are literally filled with DEAD PLANETS.
  • And yet, the Masters of Wisdom who have incarnated in previous lifetimes on Earth are COMMITTED to work with those of you willing to help.

The bad news: If we burn all of the planet’s fossil fuels, we’ll melt all of the world’s land ice. The oceans will rise about 200 feet (6o m). Many of the world’s greatest cities will disappear.

The good news: You’ll be long gone so … party on? Not so fast…

Watching Al Gore’s documentary on global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,” should have been enough to turn any sane and semi-good-doggieintelligent person off such flagrant hype. A British judge ruled in Oct 2007, for example, that Gore gored the scientific truth in his film (see “Goring the Truth,” Oct 2007).

gore-crybaby“Based on the judge’s ruling, the footage that ought to be excised adds up to about 25 minutes or so out of the 98-minute film. What’s left is largely Gore personal drama and cinematic fluff that has nothing to do with the science of climate change,” writes Milloy in “Junk Science: Hey Gore, We Want a Refund” (Fox News, Oct 19).

Par for the course. Whatduya expect when Bill and Hillary Clinton or their flunkies invoke the word “truth?” The Truth?  Really?

And considering that this Clinton flunky claimed in the early 1990s to have invented the internet (the “information superhighway,” a term attributed to Gore), perhaps his film should have been entered in the comedy category.

Instead, the New World Order crowd in Oslo and Hollywood gave Al Gore a Nobel Prize and a couple of Oscars. Yes, the same folks who also gave Obama a Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. Another comedy sketch worthy of SNL (Saturday Night Live).

Okay, so you can probably gather by now that this writer doesn’t care much for the New World Order flunkies, whether Democrats, like the Clintons, Gore or Obama, or Republicans, like Bush’s, Cheney or McCain.

But this Steward of the Earth does care about the Planet Earth. Deeply. Which is why he founded the Stewards of the Earth organization in 2012. Which now numbers nearly 4,000 stewards from over 150 countries in the world.

So is global warming a hoax or a truth?

The answer: Both.

It’s a hoax to the extent that the climate doomsayers claim we are facing clear and present danger. It is the truth that may haunt future inhabitants of this planet unless we start curbing carbon monoxide emissions around the globe.

Putting it succinctly, a death of oil and gas companies would signal rebirth of the rest of the planet.

“Homo sapiens sapiens, the species with the ironic name, is not known for long-term thinking,” writes Joe Romm in a Climate Progress September 2015 article.

Ironic, because “sapiens” means wise in Latin. And the way we have been plundering and destroying our planet is anything but (wise). It is not only a case of greed. It is an example of extreme selfishness.

We are robbing future generations of this planet of their future.

A new analysis in Science Advances, “Combustion of available fossil fuel resources sufficient to eliminate the Antarctic Ice Sheet,” finds just that if temperatures rise 11°C (20°F). The earth would lose all of the Antarctic ice sheet — which is where 90 percent of the world’s land-locked ice is, enough to raise sea level by itself more than 160 feet. When you add in the Greenland ice sheet — whose point of no return is probably closer to 3°C warming — plus all of the other land-based glaciers and thermal expansion, you get sea level rise of over 200 feet (see

So let me try to bring the truth about the global warming home with some concrete examples, courtesy of Google maps at What if the ocean levels were rise 200 ft? What would that mean to the world as we know it today?

Well, one thing it would mean is that future generations might be able to go scuba diving down the skyscrapers of New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, even Beijing, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, not to mention London and northern Europe where a new sailing competition for Europe’s Cup might take place. Or where future generations could drive their amphibious automobiles over sunken cities, like Atlantis or the treasure-laden shipwrecks in the past.

Take a look….

North America

Mexico, Central and South America

China, Japan, Western Australia

Queensland, Eastern Australia

Northern Europe, U.K.

Italy, Middle East,  Black Sea

So there you have it, the hoax and the truth aspects of global warming. What’s to be done?

Well, nothing – if you’re a selfish SOB who cares about nothing and nobody except himself/herself survival in the current lifetime.

Put pressure on everybody and anybody you know in the government, media, your town, your neighborhood, your family – to reduce our dependance on fossil fuels, and promote the use of renewable energy (solar, wind, bio… etc.).

In other words, be a good Steward of the Earth.

Or to use a medical analogy and apply it to treating our Mother Earth the way a doctor is supposed to treat a patient:

“First do no harm”

(“First do no harm” (Latin: Primum non nocere) is not a part of the Hippocratic Oath, strictly speaking, although the oath does contain a similar sentence: “Also I will, according to my ability and judgment, prescribe a regimen for the health of the sick; but I will utterly reject harm and mischief”, in Latin “Victus quoque rationem ad aegrotantium salutem pro facultate, judicioque meo adhibebo, noxamvero et maleficium propulsabo”).

Which means, we must work to remove those who do harm to our planet – the oil and gas companies, the various other industries that ride on their coattails, and any other individual or organization that prospers from carbon emissions and destruction of our planet.

Pollution and carbon emissions is bigger than any one of us. It’s bigger than any regional or national interest. Because they are killing our Mother.

UPDATE January 14, 2016

One would not typically associate New York with being “green,” either environmentally or literally. Yet when it comes to reducing carbon emissions during commute to work, New York City tops all American cities.

A report from the League of American Bicyclists analysed the rate of non-driving in large U.S. cities (population 300,000+), finding that 68 percent of New Yorkers travel by either bike, walking or transit. People living in Washington D.C., and Boston have also started turning their backs on the automobile, with bike/walk/transit accounting for 53.1 and 50.7 percent of travel respectively. In Portland, cycling has gained serious tracking, accounting for 7.2 percent of the city’s travel. However, according to the report, only 24.4 percent of trips in the city are conducted by bike, walking or transit.

Why New York? Is it that the citizens of the Big Apple are really the nation’s best Stewards of the Earth?

Hardly. New York City is also the costliest place to park in USA (USA TODAY, July 2011). And Boston is second, just as in the “green” rankings.

That’s no accident. What’s making these cities appear “green” is the financial pain of driving a car to work.

Midtown and downtown Manhattan, for example, are the two most expensive places in the USA to park, with median monthly rates at $541 and $533, respectively, says Colliers International’s annual survey of parking rates in North America. In third place is Boston at $438, 19% less per month than midtown Manhattan and well above the national average of $155.22.

There’s no shortage of cities with eye-popping downtown parking rates. Rounding out the top 10 most expensive central business districts for monthly parking rates are San Francisco at $375; Philadelphia at$304; Seattle at $294; Chicago at $289; Washington at $260; Honolulu at$217; and Los Angeles at $210.

If you’re looking for cheap cities, go no farther than Reno, which has a monthly rate of $45; Phoenix at $50, and Bakersfield, Calif., at $53.

Unfortunately, across the United States, the automobile is still king of the commute. A 2013 survey revealed that 76.4 percent of Americans travel to work by car and alone, with only 5.2 percent using public transport. Some 2.8 percent walk and a mere 0.6 percent commute by bike.

So there is much work to be done on reducing carbon emissions. The big cities could lead the way by jacking up the parking rates several fold, perhaps to the levels of New York or Boston. And then watch the commuter traffic jams start to fall off and the sun shine more brightly in their cities.

Summary of Jan 2, 2016 Channeling Session

Rainbow Shower Aerial 12

This is a Summary of a fascinating channeling session I had on Jan 2, 2016 with an Egyptian Spirit who ascended some 3,500 years ago.

“You are what is called Bodhisattwa. It means if you were to incarnate, you chose to do so.” (Spirit)

Bodhisattva –  a human being committed to the attainment of enlightenment for the sake of others. Therefore, it will be up to me after I pass back to the Spirit to decide whether or not I come back to incarnate again.

Personal Mandala Already Constructed in 3D – Another fascinating revelation was that I had already constructed my personal Mandala in 3D at the Rainbow Shower in Maui between 2009 and 2011 without realizing that that’s what it was Flower of Life.

In my incarnations during the last 500 years I continued to work subconsciously as an ancient shaman – by sponsoring other artists to create works with Divine connections, or sometimes even doing it myself. And now, I have come a full circle – becoming a shaman again.

Here’s my Stuart tartan tie which I have had for over 40 years now. I bought it in Canada in the early 1970s without knowing why I was attracted to it, nor that I had incarnated as King James VI and I (1566-1625) – who sponsored Shakespeare and inspired several plays in which Shakespeare used ancient Celtic rites and characters he had learned about from King James (Midsummer Night’s Dream, Winter’s Tale and MacBeth).

“Stop This World”

Stop this world, let me off
There’s just too many pigs in the same trough
There’s too many buzzards sitting on the fence
Stop this world, it’s not making sense

Stop this show, hold the phone
Better days this girl has known
Better days so long ago
Hold the phone, won’t you stop the show

Well, it seems my little playhouse has fallen down
I think my little ship has run aground
I feel like I’m in the wrong place
My state of mind is a disgrace

Won’t you stop this game, deal me out I know too well what it’s all about
I know too well that it had to be
Stop this game well it’s ruining me

Well I got too smart for my own good
I just don’t do the things I know I should
There’s bound to be some better way
I just got one thing more to say

And that is
Stop this game, deal me out I know too well what it’s all about
I know too well that it had to be
Stop this game well it’s wrecking me

Spinning Earth

The earthly and the celestial events united this Christmas Day at an auspicious 11:11 time UTC/GMT, signifying both Masters’ presence and Rebirth, just like the one that took place 2015+ years ago.

timezones_textNot since 1977 has a full moon dawned in the skies on Christmas. And there will not be another one till 2034. So since most of us will only get a chance to experience something like this perhaps twice in our lifetime, let us welcome, honor and celebrate this rare confluence of physical, spiritual and celestial.

The folks in the British Isles, Iceland, Portugal and Western Africa have a chance to do so at exactly 11:11 on their watches and clocks. And only New Zealanders were left out. By the time the Full Moon was at its apex, it was be already Dec 26 there.

11:11 In Numerology

11:11 is the universe’s way of urging us to pay attention to our heart, our soul and our inner intuition. It’s serving as a wake-up call to us so that opportunities are not missed in this lifetime. Sort of like a Rebirth or a second chance to pay attention to the synchronicities around us. For, they are signs of Spirit presence. And in case of the Number 11, the Masters’ guidance in our lives.

Christmas Eve

Over here at the Rainbow Shower in Maui, the celestial Christmas show started on Christmas Eve with this sunset rainbow…

And this is my musical Christmas card – two variations from Carmina Burana.

I just finished playing them “live” here at the Rainbow Shower, so I thought you might also enjoy this recording of it I made in Sep 2014.

Christmas Full Moon Rising

I feared we would miss it. With all the rain and clouds we had been having today, I was not sure I would get to see this auspicious Full Moon that appears at Christmas only every so many decades.

But something made me step out to the lanai to take a look. Miraculously, the rain had stopped. Momentarily, I am sure. And I could feel, more than see, the moonglow through the clouds.

So I hurried back into the house and grabbed my two cameras.IMG_4980

I needn’t have rushed. Because by the time I got back out, clouds had obscured the moon. Undaunted, I decided to wait them out.

Sure enough, after a few minutes, Mama Quilla (Mother Moon), La Luna, showed up again, this time bright and beautiful bathing everything in its bluish milky light.

The reflection off our solar panels was a bonus. Made it seem as if was reflecting off ice.

And then, Elizabeth called to say goodnight after her big Christmas Eve party in AZ. She is flying back home to Maui early tomorrow morning.

I looked at the time of her call: 11:11 (AZ time). 🙂 The official Full Moon time as 11:11 UTC.

PS: For the photo enthusiasts, both picture were taken freehand, without a tripod. The left one with the iPhone special NightCap Pro app, the right one with a Canon G12. Both were slightly edited.

I was awakened this morning around 6 AM. It felt like it was still nighttime. But a mellow outside light gave the windows a milky glow.

“The full moon, moonset…” entered my consciousness as I was slowly waking up.

I felt too sleepy to get up and look. But the outside light worked like a magnet to draw me out of bed and onto the lanai.

The sight of a setting Moon was breathtaking. The sky was clear. Yet the rain must have evidently just stopped. Because the lanai was very wet.

That’s when I realized there will be no more sleeping for me on this Christmas morning. So went inside to get the cameras.

A few minutes later, I drove some 5 miles west to Ho’okipa Point to try to catch the moonset over the ocean and the sunrise that was happening simultaneously.

By the time I got back to the Rainbow Shower, it seemed the sun was rising once again over the mountain on whose slopes our property lies.

So here are some of the shots I brought home. This is just a preview from one of the two cameras.

I shot this video “by accident” this morning while trying to take a photo… and yet it captured the waning moments of a setting Christmas full moon. Just for one second. No accident, I guess?

You can also see the surfers in the water even at that early hour (6:54 AM), before the sun had even come up.

What About Poor Chickens and Fish?

Rainbow Shower, Maui, Hawaii, Oct 26, 2015 – The UN Health Agency (WHO – World Health Organization) published today a study which declared that processed meats raise the risk of colon and stomach cancer and that red meat is probably dangerous, too.

Of course, meat producers are angry, vegetarians are euphoric, and cancer experts are welcoming the most comprehensive pronouncement yet on the relation between our modern meat-eating lifestyles and cancer.

But there were a few more winners the New York Times did not mention in its today’s headline story

cows-grazingIf I were a cow, for example, I would feel beyond euphoric. Ecstatic! Unless already loaded on a truck heading for an abattoir, it would feel as if I have just received a reprieve from a death sentence.

Ditto re. pigs, sheep, deer, horses… and other members of the Red Meat Club.

No wonder the meat producers are angry. Just like the tobacco growers were when science proved their product’s link to cancer.

But there may be at least one more loser the New York Times did not mention in its today’s story: Chicken.

You see, if I were a chicken, I’d be mortified. In fact, I’d call my lawyer and ask him to start preparing legal paperwork for protection from genocide.

What do you suppose are all those red blooded Americans (and others) are going to do when they learn that they are ingesting cancer? Just like their parents and grandparents were inhaling it?

Well, some may quit. Probably not many.  Wouldn’t hold my breath for it, but some may even turn vegetarian.

Another minority may become pescetarian [pɛskəˈtɛriən] – fish eating vegetarians.  Just don’t expect them to know how to pronounce their new culinary creed.

But most members of the Red Meat Club will say “to hell with it,” and ride on their cows and pigs to cancer deaths.  Again, just like many of our parents and grandparents did.

Or they may switch to chicken… still meat, but until now beneath their macho self images. Beats cancer death, though.

perdue-chickenBut wait a second… isn’t chicken meat also susceptible to salmonella? And linked to E. Coli virus? And bird flu? And a bunch of other nasty medical Latin names?

Consumers Reports found in 2013, for example, that 97% of the chicken breasts were tainted with at least one of six bacterias that can make people sick, including salmonella, campylobacter, and staphylococcus aureus (common causes of food poisoning); E. coli and enterococcus (which indicate fecal contamination); and klebsiella pneumoniae (a bug that can cause infections such as pneumonia).

That sure sounds like better defense than filing a legal brief against genocide.

Nor is the fish sacrosanct. The British Health Service, for example, has recently issued a warning that fish oil, consumed as a supplement or as seafood, may make men 70% more likely to get prostate cancer than those who do not ingest such food.

As usual, some disagree. Like Dr Mark Hyman.  Mostly with methodology. But even he cannot deny the core conclusions of the study.

So you see, there are many ways to die from eating the “wrong” kinds of meat. Cancer isn’t the only one.  All you can do is choose your own

Or you can become a VEGETARIAN.

I know. It sucks. But if you suck it up and eat your fruit and veggies and nuts anyway, maybe you will live longer. If that’s what you want. If not, ride on the carcass of that cow, pig, sheep or chicken into oblivion.

We all have to die from something, right? That would be redneck mentality.

Bottom line? You need to ask yourself a question: Am I a redneck?

The answer to that question will determine how much red meat you will choose to eat.

Fore more on the latest WHO study see, “UN Agency Links Hot Dogs and Other Processed Meat to Cancer“:

Fourth “Blood Moon” of the 2014-2015 Tetrad

4th blood moon

I have had the good fortune to see the first three Blood Moons of the tetrad live. Not the fourth, though, which will occur in a few hours.  Because Hawaii will still be in mid-afternoon daylight at the time of the lunar eclipse (see below).

But Elizabeth should be able to in Arizona. And so will most of the people in the Americas , the Atlantic island communities,  and Western Europe and Africa.

Eastern Europe and Africa, Western Russia and parts of the Middle East will be able to see a partial eclipse.

As for the rest of the world – East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and most of the Pacific – we will be out of luck this time., I’m afraid.

But a lack of visual sighting of the final Blood Moon will certainly not stop the powerful energetic transmissions from the universe from reach the Earth. They are supposed to peak at the time of the Blood Moon.

Weather permitting, I plan to do a special shamanic fire ceremony at that time  – between 4:11 PM and 5:23 PM Hawaiian time on Sunday, Sep 27. I invite you all to join me in ether at that time no matter where around the world you are.

The last Blood Moon tetrad was in 1982; the next will be in 2033.

NASA logoNASA also put a stop to all the doomsaying nonsense that has been heaped upon the internet by false prophets who are out to make a buck by scaring gullible people.

“NASA knows of no asteroid or comet currently on a collision course with Earth, so the probability of a major collision is quite small,” its webite says.

“In fact, as best as we can tell, no large object is likely to strike the Earth any time in the next several hundred years.”

A Little Astronomy-Geography Fun Eye Test

And now, here’s a little astronomy-geography eye test for you. Take a look at this image.

LA-Hawaii Blood Moon

It is the same Blood Moon photographed from three different geographic locations at roughly the same time. Notice something different about it? Can you explain it?

Here’s a hint. This is the same left (New Zealand) image flipped upside-down:

NZ Blood Moon upside-down

Okay. So when you live in the Southern Hemisphere, you see the same sky as we do in the North, only upside-down.

Wonders of the internet. You learn something new every day. Or two… Take a look at this image:

Again, the same Blood Moon. Notice something different between the one seen in Hawaii vs. Los Angeles?

Answer: The Hawaii one is wearing its white (solar) cap to the right of center. The LA one to the left.

The reason? That’s because Maui is 2,500 miles southwest of LA. So the viewing angle is different.

Fun with astro facts and pics, huh? 🙂

In  late June, John-Luke Edwards and John Stockton invited me to an interview on Tending the Earth, i.e., on what the purpose of the Stewards of the Earth is.  Their show aired on Wed, 22 July 2015 under the title, Show 11 – Tending the Earth (see the link below).

As John-Luke and Jeff put it, “we will be trying get a grip on the notion of tending Earth and whether this is our job or is our role to be tended by the earth; and how far do we take or realize our responsibility for tending or mis-tending. The mistreatment of the environment is a big debate and we hope to address a small piece of it.”

Here are some still shots from that video’s key points.

Using a part of the edited audio of that podcast, I have now created a half-hour video which deals not only with the subject of Tending the Earth, but also how we can make a Bonfire of Our Fears in order to First Liberate Ourself, and then others.  And it includes some of the most gorgeous scenery on the face of the earth.

And now, here the actual video.  Enjoy!

PS:  I was fascinated to discover when I finally finished it after several days of editing that it was 33 minutes in duration. And you know me and the Master Numbers, like 11, 22, 33.

In case you’re interested, here’s what the #33 means numerologically:

“33 is the Master Teacher. This individual’s focus is on reaching the world and uplifting the loving energy of mankind. They are not concerned with personal ambition, and have great devotion to cause.

Life Path number 33 is signified by the word altruistic. This number has a high energy and is concerned with doing good in the world.

Those with Life Path number 33 want to use their life to raise the consciousness of as many people as possible. Their concern is the earth and all the people who live here. It’s really a beautiful life path number. As you may have guessed few have it. Below are some key points you might want to take into consideration to help you on your path …

The 33/6 life path will call you to leadership and responsibility. This may not always please you, but you’ll have to make your peace with it.

The 33 individuals usually achieve fame through acts of kindness, tenderness and compassion that lead to the transformation of the world’s consciousness. The details may vary. We could be talking about the Pope, we could be talking about a wonderful first-grade teacher. “
When we arrived in Rainbow Shower, Maui in early 2009, I brought with me two cars – a Mercedes 600SL “rocket ship,” as one of my Canadian friends called it, and a Honda Hybrid.
But as a shaman, I felt guilty driving a “rocket ship”-type car. So I gave it to Elizabeth to drive.
And then I felt guilty for owning it at all. So I sold it and used the proceeds to buy a Steinway concert grand – my first ever Steinway. 😃🎹
Memories evoked… by the recent interview on Stewardship of the Earth…

Full Moon over and under ocean, location unknownPHOENIX/LOS ANGELES = Friday – 31 July 2015 – 03:42:54 AM (PDT)

Tomorrow, Friday, July 31, 2015, the world will welcome another Blue Moon.  It will occur in the early morning – 3: 43 AM – here in the Pacific time zone.

We haven’t seen a Blue Moon for nearly three years. The last one was on Aug 31, 2012 (see below).

What is a “Blue Moon?”

It is the name given to the second full moon in a calendar month. Because there are roughly 29.5 days between full moons, it is unusual for two full moons to “fit” into a 30 or 31 day month.

The saying “Once in a Blue Moon” means a rare occurrence, and predates the current astronomical use of the term, which is quite recent. In fact, Blue Moons are actually not all that rare, on average there will be one Blue Moon every 2.5 years.

But I had no idea about any of that when I walked onto the Meelup Beach in Western Australia (right) with a group of friends on the Blue Moon night 16 years ago.  It was on Jan 31, 1999 that I first heard of the term Blue Moon and actually watched one rise over the ocean.

Meelup beachIt was an apt place for it. Because Meelup means “place of the moon” in the Australian Aborigine language.  Elizabeth and I also visited this beautiful beach in February of this year (right).

The story “Once in a Blue Moon at Meelup“, published in Feb 1999, helped me (re)remember the details time had erased from memory. You can also read it below.

Happy Blue Moon of 2015!

A Travel Vignette

Once in a Blue Moon at Meelup Beach

WESTERN AUSTRALIA, Jan 31, 1999 – We’ve all heard of girl-watching; bird-watching; crystal ball-gazing; watching a toast that never pops; watching your step, or your manners… But have you ever heard of moon-gazing?

Well, it happens. But only once in a blue moon. At the Meelup beach – the “place of the moon” – in Western Australian Aborigine language.

So moon-gazing is not a western tradition. The Aborigines were well aware of the beauty of the Meelup moon. Too bad there aren’t many of them left these days to share the moon with us. Maybe we’d be able to find out if they also knew about the blue moon?

I didn’t. Not until a professional moon-gazer, a banker, explained it to me. If a full moon happens twice in a single month, it’s called a “blue moon.” Since that’s a rare event, thence the expression, “once in a blue moon.” Simple. Logical. Useful. For a game of Trivial Pursuit.

“It’s late,” declared a local Naturaliste expert, the name of the nearby cape first discovered by the French, almost two centuries ago.

“What’s late?”

“The moon.”

“Really? How do you know?”

“It was supposed to rise at 7:44 (PM). And now it’s close to eight o’clock.” Then posing to reflect on the significance of the moon’s tardiness, the expert declared: “It will rise two inches above the horizon tonight.”

“Really? Why two inches?”

“Because of the mist in the air.”

“Hm?” I still wasn’t getting it. Two inches on a horizon as wide as Indian Ocean’s could mean literally two inches; or two thousand miles; or two million miles… depending on the distance from the observer. But I realized I was being way too pragmatic for a setting so sensory; so entirely “out of this world,” that it seemed almost surreal. Several hundred people huddled on a beach, waiting for a blue moon to break the dusk and rise over the ocean. So I shut up, and let my senses take over.

“Want a piece of chicken?” my wife asked. Now that’s letting a sense take over – a sense of survival!

“Sure, thanks.”

As the seconds ticked away, I noticed that just about everybody was also chomping on “chooks,” Aussie-speak for chicken. “It’s the easiest thing to make for a picnic meal,” one lady explained.

“Look at the stingray,” the Naturaliste expert exclaimed, pointing to a distant part of the beach.

“Stingray? You can see a stingray in this darkness?,” I asked, figuring he was pulling my leg. All I could see was a two-masted sailing boat which was trying to move in closer to the expectant moon.

Then, as if he hadn’t made a comment about the stingray, the Naturaliste continued, looking across the ocean horizon. “Just think, it’s so beautiful and peaceful here. But somewhere out there, there are people killing each other. Isn’t that bizarre?”

Having quickly snapped back to my pragmatic mode, I was thinking fast and furiously what countries lay due north from us which could have elicited this comment. Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Russia, New York, Colombia, Brazil… I was mentally following the 110º or so meridian up and around the globe.

“I guess, so,” I replied, not wanting to pursue a political discussion at such a moment.

“There it is!” someone shouted excitedly from behind us.

Indeed, a tiny glow of orange light flickered due north above the ocean. And yes, it was about “two inches” above the horizon. So now I got it. The ocean mist blocks the light until the moon rises high enough above it, making it seem as if the moon actually jumped, like a ball bouncing off the ocean.

From there on, the moon rose fairly quickly, gradually shedding its orange glow, and taking on a milky color which streamed across the ocean like a giant silver runway. The Meelup moon-gazers cheered for the sail boat to hurry up and glide with its sails across the moon. But to no avail. This moon was just too fast for a little schooner to catch it. The boat had to settle for a silver – crossing the moon’s silver runway. Back on the beach, cameras were clicking furiously.

Suddenly, the mournful sound of a saxophone penetrated the night’s stillness. “Oh, no! Don’t tell me that Slick Willie has followed us all the way down here?,” my wife exclaimed.

I laughed. But I was the only one who laughed. Guess that was an “in joke” for Americans only? I decided to leave it that way, as the rest of the people were happily humming along with the saxophone’s tunes.

To say that it was a romantic moment was to understate its beauty. The scene was pure magic. Meelup magic.

“Well, the beer’s gone, let’s go,” a burly male voice said. And so was the magic. Gone. Until the next blue moon, at Meelup.

As if on command, several hundred people got up, packed the remains of their “chooks,” and headed for cars and buses. Yes, the buses. Moon-gazing is such a popular sport down here that the shire (county) even laid on some buses to take those who opted for a 5km (3 miles) shoreline walk from the nearby town to the beach, back to their cars in the parking lot.

“See you next year,” we waved goodbye to some of our new friends. For, friendships minted by the Meelup blue moon are “forever,” the Aborigines used to believe.

“How do you know that?” someone asked.

“Because I used to come to this beach in one of my former lives.”

A look of incredulity showed on my friend’s face. “What loony house did this guy come from?,” the face wondered.

So I added, “Just kidding. I don’t know that. But it’s got to be true. Just ask the Meelup moon.

Right after listening to the marvelous lecture by Sadhguru in honor of the Guru Purnima day, this music started to well up in my ears. I felt a Divine connection through it.

I sat down immediately to play it and record it as a symphony orchestra piece the way I heard it, with the strings as the lead. It was all done without any practice.

Alas, I do not know that this music is. I could be Mozart or Bach, I think. So I need your help – my dear musically endowed and educated friends – in identifying these opening bars of an evidently larger piece. Thank you.

My 30-second clip is attached (MP3 file). I am calling it my GURU PURNIMA THEME for now.

Thank you in advance.
